Dear Friends,
In 1994 when Tolt's choir director resigned and our budget was extremely short, Kathy Youde, who sang a strong alto in the choir, volunteered to be unpaid choir director. She took over with typical Kathy enthusiasm, research and preparation, going through the music collection, finding pieces we hadn't done in years, rewriting parts to fit the voices of the choir. Kathy created practice tapes on an old cassette recorder for singers who didn't read music and even tried her hand at arranging.
This Sunday the choir presents one of those Kathy arrangements, two lovely Advent carols sung in juxtaposition. The women lead with the sweet yearning of 'All Earth is Waiting to See the Promised One.' The men have the tricky part, Come Thou Long Expected Jesus, with a few notes changed to complement the women. They have to negotiate a time signature change as well. We're even using Kathy's cut and paste version of the music with notations in her handwriting.
Kathy directed the choir until 1999 and then rejoined us 2008.
To honor Kathy, the choir will sing at the 8:30 and 10:30 services on Sunday November 28. We invite you to join us as we honor Kathy's many musical gifts to us.
